Icelandair Takes Delivery Of First Airbus A321LR

December 3, 2024

REYKJAVIK, 3 DEC | Icelandair has just taken delivery of their first out of 4 Airbus A321LR jets (also known as A321neo) today, as part of fleet modernisation efforts by the airline. The very first A321LR with registration TF-IAA destined for the airline touched down at 1.19pm local time after a short hop from Airbus' factory in Hamburg (XFW).

The carrier confirmed on July 6, 2023 that they would take in 4 of the type to replace their older fleet of 10 Boeing 757s with average age of 25.7 years, while also filling gaps until the airline takes in their 13 Airbus A321XLRs from 2029. This is a very pivotal switch for the airline as they veer away from an all-Boeing fleet and modernise it with airframes from European manufacturer, Airbus.

The first jet, TF-IAA, has undergone roughly 4 and a half hours of test flights, with the first on November 19th. The airline has interesting plans for the aircraft type, with flights to Copenhagen (CPH) and Stockholm (ARN) from December 10, 2024. The jet will also operate on flights to London-Heathrow (LHR) and Oslo (OSL) on December 23rd and 24th respectively. Later next year, selected services to Manchester (MAN), Glasgow (GLA), Amsterdam (AMS) and Brussels (BRU) will too be operated by the type. Once all the jets are delivered, A321LR services will launch to Seattle (SEA) from May 7th, together with Rome (FCO), Berlin (BER) and Paris (CDG) in June.

Icelandair's A321LR fleet will be configured with 22 lie-flat Business Class seats and 165 seats in Economy Class.
