United Intends To Launch New China Route

LOS ANGELES, 3 DEC | American carrier, United Airlines has filed with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to launch an all new service to Mainland China, according to One Mile At A Time. The carrier intends to launch an all new service from Los Angeles (LAX) to Beijing (PEK) from May 1, 2025.

The new route will be operated 3x weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (Outbound) with Boeing 787-9 aircraft. The aircraft consists of 48 Polaris Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 Premium Plus seats, 39 Economy Plus seats and 149 regular Economy Class seats. United operates 39 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with an average aircraft age of approximately 5.1 years.

The outbound service departs LAX at 11.10pm, arriving in PEK at 4.45am, 2 days later. The inbound service later departs PEK at 12pm, arriving in LAX at 9.35am.

Air China is currently the only operator on this 15-hour long direct sector, flying 3x weekly with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. This also marks the first new China route by a US carrier since 2017, where American airlines launched a similar route, which was later terminated.
